湖北省人民医院耳鼻喉科华清泉教授介绍，人耳的听觉极限范围在20赫兹至20000赫兹，低于20赫兹或高于20000赫兹的声波，人都是听不到的，而所谓“超声波”就是高于20000赫兹的声波。常见的多媒体音箱至少设有低音、中音、高音三部分。虽然某些高音单元的发声上限可达30000Hz，但音箱的工作状况、效率还是会大打折扣。那么，也就是说现在一般的普通多媒体音箱，能在18000Hz以上不衰减的可谓少之又少，而在20000Hz以上不衰减的几乎没有。因为音箱是按照人耳20Hz-20000Hz的听觉范围设计的，要发出超出这个频率范围的声波基本是不可能的。超声波驱蚊在原理上是可行的，但借助发声装置无法产生超声波，所以此类软件推敲起来就不太科学了
