Procedures

· Follow all manufacturers’ safety precautions when using biocides. Contact vendors for MSDS’s

· Follow all mixing and handling procedures for each biocide.

· Follow all disposal procedures.

· Add biocides during non-production hours (i.e. weekends)

Silver Nitrate

· Silver nitrate is provided as a powder. Use only as a diluted material. Dilute the appropriate amount of silver nitrate in a plastic 50 gallon pail. Stir solution with a wooden rod until solids are dissolved.

· Use a clean lined drum for mixing, an empty E/Coat pigment or Flow Control Additive (FCA) drum will suffice.

· Dump and clean tank and refill with fresh deionized water.

· Isolate rinses
- no transfers
- no overflows

· Pump the required amount of diluted material into each part of the deionized water rinse system.

· Pump at a rate of 2 GPM maximum.

· Add above the surface of the tanks in an area of good agitation

· Circulate rinses for 24 hours isolated, run sprays 4 hours minimum

· Return rinses to normal operation

· Flush pump used for biocide with deionized water.

· Dispose of all items used for the biocide properly

Kathon EDC 1.5% (or equivalent)

· Liquid biocides are diluted materials.

· Dump and clean tank and refill with fresh deionized water.

· Pump the required amount of material into the recirculated rinse tank.

· Pump at a rate of 2 GPM maximum.

· Flush pump used for biocide with deionized water.

· Dispose of all items used for the biocide properly

Hydrogen Peroxide

· 30% H2O2 is concentrated, however, no dilution is required.

· Dump and clean tank and refill with fresh deionized water.

· Pump the required amount of material into the recirculated rinse tank.

· Pump at a rate of 2 GPM maximum.

· Flush pump used for biocide with deionized water.

· Dispose of all items used for the biocide properly.
