Innovation naturally extends to the company's market offerings as well: roughly three-fourths of all Siemens' products and services are less than five years old. This is made possible by the efforts of some 50,000 R&D employees at Siemens, almost one-third of whom work outside of Germany.

  Growth and innovation are two pillars of Siemens' top initiative, a program that has been successfully implemented for several years now. The third pillar of this program is productivity, where impressive progress has also been achieved. The company complemented the top initiative by launching the Win program to ensure sustainable growth in company value.

  With some 600,000 shareholders, Siemens is one of Europe's largest public corporations. Just over 50 percent of the share capital is held outside of Germany, and a considerable proportion of the shareholders are Siemens employees. The Siemens share is traded on the eight German stock exchanges as well as in Amsterdam, Brussels, London, Paris, Vienna, Basel, Geneva, and Zurich. A public listing of the Siemens share in New York is planned for the spring of 2001.
