The Importance of the Family Strategies in Rehabilitation of

Stroke Patients with Cognitive Impairments

Stroke doesnˇt only result in limits on the patientˇs movement, but also results in impairments of senior cognitive function to various degrees. Cognitive rehabilitation is very important for stroke patients. The better cognitive function is, the better the rehabilitation outcome. This article concerns cognitive impairments and some family strategies in stroke patients.

Detailed cognitive assessments were given to 5 stroke patients whose scores of BDS (Blessed Dementia Scale) were normal. It was found that there were still cognitive impairments in these patients. After informing their family members and carers about family strategies, the scores were higher than others without family strategies when assessing them again. The outcome of these patients with family strategies was also good.

Family strategies are very important in cognitive rehabilitation.
