The band's name is a variation of the name of the gym coach of the high school that several of its members attended: Leonard Skinner. Mr. Skinner was a very conservative man who would punish anyone who broke the school's strict dress code, which banned long hair and sideburns.

确实是Sweet Home Alabama让Lynyrd Skynyrd在中国让普通人认识或者第一次听说的，至少我第一次听他们的歌是通过阿甘正传，后来的空中监狱也有，而且有特别通过空中监狱这部电影中间的插曲以及介绍，就是这只多人乐队最后灭亡于空难..让更多人知道了Lynyrd Skynyrd..
