我觉得好难辨别啊，大家有什么好的建议呢？
north
n.北, 北方, 北部
adj.北, 北方的
adv.在北方, 向北方
northern
adj.北方的, 北部的
northern 比 north 表达得让人觉得更北一点
比如说 你问路 别人回答：
1. Go north.
往北走。
2. Go in the northern direction.
往北那儿走。
（in other words 也就是 再往北的深处走/在深一点往北走）
northern 不过比 north 透彻了点
就像far 跟 farther 差不多 意思上是这么解
（我只是从词的意思上这么比喻 不用深刻研究这个）
只不过 说"norther" 的话不顺难听

其实不难。
前者可以使名词也可以是副词
而后者是形容词
