“Towering Jinan, hundredth university”. Jinan University, which has been called “first university for overseas Chinese”, will meet her hundredth birthday on November 16, 2006. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all levels of leaders, and all those social individuals and organizations, overseas Chinese and native Chinese, school directors & fellows and that have supported Jinan’s development in China for many years.

Jinan University, former “Jinan School”, was founded in 1906 in Nanjing, has beard the great mission of spreading Chinese culture to the four seas, and carrying Chinese spirit forward to the world, created the upstream of the history of Chinese overseas education. Since then, Jinan people generation to generation inherited the manner and strive ceaselessly. From a ship in the sea to the well known “first university for overseas Chinese” today, the developmental history of Jinan University has close relative to the fate of our state and nation. Under the directly leading of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, Jinan University has become a state key university facing to 21th century in 1996, and successfully realized spanned development. Cultural inheritory of nearly one hundred years makes the reputation and her elites of Jinan University spread to all over China and oversea. Up to now, the university has adopted students coming from five continents, 97 countries, and three regions as Hongkong, Aomen, Taiwan. Presently, it has 22000 full-time students, among them 5008 PhDs and postgraduates, and it has 8966 students coming from 57 countries and three regions as Hongkong, Aomen, Taiwan.
The hundredth birthday celebration of 2006 is not only an important milestone in the developmental history of Jinan University, but also a new chance for the university to inherit the past and shine in the future, and to recreate her splendid history. We will consider it as a chance, summarize the experiences and bring our advantages into play, rewrite the new record for the fulfillment of “Overseas university surplus known university ” and the construction of famous high-level research university.
The various preparing works for hundredth birthday celebration of of Jinan university have been set up, and the ceremonial activity will be conducted from Nov 16 to 18 in 2006.
