For fillet-welded joints that are highly loaded,full-welded through and not after-treated,a straight line of fatigue strength with an inclination m=2k – 1 is suggested up to a limit value of 108 cycles for the loads such as tension,compression,bending,and their combinations.For butt-joint welds,a limit value up to 107 cycles on Wohler’s curve of such constructions is sufficient,For welded joints subjected to torsion and shear ,a straight line of fatigue strength with a limit value of 108 cycles is suggested,because failures in these welded joints are unavoidable as seen in Fig.8.In all joints without joint preparation,the limit value of 108 cycles is to be used.
Figures 6,7,17,and18 represent Wohler’s and Gassner’s curves of a plate totube joint subjected to dynamic bending and torsion loads according to the IIW recommendations In a regression calculation using the IIW values,the measuring points with a probability of survival of PS=97.7% as with the recommended inclination k=3.0 and k=5.0 were relocated for bending and torsion loads respectively to increase the accuracy of determination.With the same aim,by means of the following intersection points:NE1=107 and NE1=108 with the recommended line of fatigue strength ,as well as the second intersection points NE2=10 and NE2=10 with the line of fatigue strength in inclination m=2k – 1 =5 and m=9,the curves of fatigue strength were displaced for bending and torsion loads,respectively .Figure 7 shows Wohler’s and Gassner’s curves for the subjection of the construction samples to torsion in directions of the ⅡW recommendations(Refs.13,14). In including and excluding fatigue strength ,Fig.17 exhibits Wohler’s curve of construction samples of a plate to tube joint for a fillet weld without joint preparation in bending load in directions of the ⅡW recommendations.Additionally, Figs.17 and 18 represent the regression lines of fatigue strength for the probabilities of survival of Ps=2.3% as well as PS=50.0%. For determining fatigue strength with the probability of survival of Ps= 97.7%,a straight line is extended up to a limit value of 10 cycles .Figure 18 show the determination of Gassner’s curve from Wohler’s curve of the construction sample subjected to a bending load. In this case ,the fatigue strength in variable amplitudes of the bending load reaches about 10 cycles.These values mentioned above are also to be used for butt-joint welds.
