到了拍电影的时候，编剧菲丽帕·鲍因斯想在国王归来皮平和摄政王迪耐索那里用上一首曲子，她就去找另一位编剧——导演彼得·杰克逊的夫人法兰·华许，法兰说自己没有时间了，就说要菲丽帕写，可菲丽帕自认为是乐盲，没辙的时候，她想起来以前听到饰演霍比特人皮平的苏格兰演员比利·伯伊德唱歌，她觉得比利唱歌很棒，就把自己从原著中提炼出来的歌词托他写一首适合的曲子，时间很紧张，隔天之后就要拍这段了

比利在DVD花絮部分自己谈到
“这该是怎样的歌？我看着歌词，思索他当时的处境，心想这首歌应该是他爷爷教他唱的，是霍比特人在迁徙中找夏尔的那个年代写的歌”
于是比利就自己创作了那段旋律

到了拍片那天，当时还无人听过比利写的这段曲调，他唱完后觉得自己很溴，因为刚写好就要当众演唱，但实际上在场的演员和工作人员都感动的热泪盈眶，后来比利在伦敦正式录制这首曲子的时候自称是“出道以来最风光的时刻”

这就是此曲的来历了，叫它The Steward Of Gondor不合适，皮平唱的这段包含在The Steward Of Gondor 里面，但一般会把它单独开列

歌词被菲丽帕·鲍因斯稍加改动就将原著中欢快跳跃的小调变为哀而不伤，夺人心志的曲子，作曲家霍华德·肖只是写了一点衬托比利的乐段，使得比利·伯伊德的清唱发挥了前所未有的杀伤力
