这个有点别扭，不过你可以参考

---这个最直白
(To my surprise,)it was me that he sent the things to.
--强调句，你应该知道的吧。
But he sent things to me.
用but表示转折，暗示该做未做的事情。或把前句用虚拟语气。
在表示本不应该做某事的时候，我认为would不如should好，因此建议这样翻译：
