环境保护税法 税目:abolishment 与 abolition 有什么区别?

这问题问得很好，这两个词的确十分接近。英美的语言工具书是这般描述两个词的分别的：

Abolishment: the abolishing of a system, practice, or institution.

Abolition: The act of formally destroying something through legal means, either by making it illegal, or simply no longer allowing it to exist in any form.

把这两段描述翻译成中文，就是：

Abolishment是废弃一个制度，某一做法，或某一机构。

Abolition是透过法律手段的正式废除某事某物，例如宣布某事为非法，或干脆不容许某事某物以任何形式继续存在。

换言之，两者都是废除的意思，但abolition是极为正规的废除，往往是国家通过行政立法手段进行的废除，而且该废除往往立即严格执行，例如废除奴隶制、废除死刑、废除一夫多妻制等等。Abolishment是比较低层次或比较小范围的废除，或者迫切性略低的废除，或者执行的时候可以逐步实施执行，例如一家公司废除某一过时的行政制度，或者政府逐步废除杂费杂税（须逐步实施，迫切性略低）。

二者都有废除，取消的意思。尤其是指“消除长期存在的风俗、习惯”等。没有大的差异，但abolition 还有 废除死刑; [美]废除黑奴制度等意思。
