My view on the new tuition tolity

Nowadays, more and more students can be admitted to the same time, many colleges have been magnifying their enrolling scales. On account of the teaching reform and some other reasons, tuition had increased by 30 percent per year by the year of 2000, and it reached its temporary climax. Maybe it will hike again after several years. High tuition has caused much controversy in society.

As far as I know, about 60 percent of China’s college students come from rural areas. Because of high tuition, education, to some extent, could result in real hardships. As most surveys indicate, a lot of parents can’t afford the high fees. They have complained about the charging standards, saying that they were set without taking the financial realities into consideration. Some parents have argued that education quality has not improved much even though fees have gone up.

A student who is a freshman majoring in Land Resource Management said his four-member family was in debt although his 16-year-old sister had quit school to find a temporary job in Beijing to provide for his study support.

“Tuition is making my family starve. Our total income is only about 6,000 yuan. That merely covers my tuition.” Complained one student from a rural Hunan village.

Financial difficulty is a big barrier during the study. Many families have no means to sustain the college tuition. To many students’ joy, they can apply for the national loan-in-aid project for higher education. The interest rate is much lower than others if you can repay the loan in accordance with the agreement. In addition, getting college scholarships is also an important way to resolve a student’s financial difficulty. But college study is self-directed learning. There is no one telling you what to do. If you want to obtain a scholarship, you must make great efforts and do your best. In a word, poverty and high tuition couldn’t hinder college students from pursing their dreams.
