如果填WHY,则不能加FOR.
LATE FOR...-...(场合,活动,会议...)迟到了

If you want to use why, the sentence has to be changed as following:
Do you know why he was late this morning ?

放“为什么”进去能读得通

如果把句子调整成正常语序就是
he was late for....this morning
举个例子
He was late for a car accident this morning。
是因为车祸迟到的
而car accident 也就是车祸，是个名词，所以用定语从句表示的时候，关系代词应该为表示名词的what

如果用why的话，后就不能接for了。
